*Schedule for
NYCDA Kansas City
Saturday and Sunday, November 8th
and 9th – Classes. Approx 8:00 a.m. to 3:00
p.m. All dancers are registered as scholarship
participants. You will be given a number to wear on
Sunday during the auditions. All dancers are required
to audition. Attendance to ALL classes is mandatory,
unless excused by Ms. Phyllis. The Competition will
start at approximately 3:30 to 4:00 in the afternoon. I
have requested that “Hey Mickey” and “Latin Fire”
compete early for our students who are in LS North’s
musical. Please note: As soon as I receive a
confirmation in my office regarding workshop and
competition times, I will pass it on to you.
Regionals/Nationals for
2009…By now everyone should have the
schedule for the 2009 Competition Season. I try hard to
work around state drill team competitions, music
contests, and area proms. However, I cannot work around
trips, etc. I am aware that Lee’s Summit West’s musical
“Footloose” is the same weekend as Starpower in Omaha,
and that the matinee is on Sunday of the same weekend.
If you are interested in auditioning for the show,
please see me asap. I will not be able to change the
dates of the competition, but may be able to offer a
solution. |

Pre-Company |
|
I am so excited about this program, and know that these
dancers are going to be amazing at their first
competition. They are in good hands with Kassi,
Natalie, and Shanna! I have enjoyed meeting with many
of you, and want this to be an amazing experience for
your young dancer! I would like to have another
meeting with you on Friday, October 17th,
at 5:15 p.m.
(once your children get into class). This will be a
quick one in the lobby to answer any questions you may
have regarding the competition schedule

The Dress Code for
Classes…Students
were following the dress code pretty well for the first
two weeks, and now it has already started to get
relaxed! Please be reminded: any female dancer not
wearing tights on their legs will be excused from class.
The ideal female dancer wears: tan or black tights,
black biker shorts, camisole bra top, OR a leotard and
tights, and their hair is pulled away from their face.
In an effort to create in our young ladies a sense of
posture, and holding their centers, they must be able to
see their stomachs! In addition, they gain a greater
sense of the discipline and focus needed for their
training.
Acro Classes –
Am trying to fit in an acro class that all pre-company and company members
can take. Here’s what is available:
Monday 5:00 – Pre-Company 1 (ages 4 and 5).
Tuesday 5:00 – Pre-Company 1 and 2 (ages 6 and 7).
Thursday 5:00 – Teen Acro Class for any student age 13 and up.
Saturday 11:00 – Mini Acro 1 (Co. 6 and 7 – not rehearsing in a small group)
Saturday 12:00 – Junior Acro – (Co. 4 and 5 not rehearsing in a lyrical SG)
Saturday 1:00 – Mini/Junior Acro
Company 6 will not be able to take the Tuesday 6:00 p.m. – it is too full
and interfering with our cheer program. Please chose one that best suits
your time and doesn’t conflict with rehearsals
Men’s Tap
Class…
I would like for the men’s tap class to resume October 4th
at 4:00 p.m. I would to also invite all of our cool dads to be a part of
this group. It’s fun, great exercise, and you’d be surprised how proud your
son/daughter will be of you! Show them you’ve still got it after all these
years! Our Adult Jazz/Hip-Hop class is also going to be starting on
Sunday, October 5th, at 5:00 p.m. There’s no time than NOW to
learn to dance and have a really good time doing it!

From the Business Office… Both
Jill and Robin have asked that I remind you to stay on
top of your payments, which include tuition and entry
fees for competitions. Tina Emery, dancewear manager,
also asks the same. You have received ample amount of
notice and communications regarding this. In August, a
timeline was given out, and you have received weekly
reminders for any upcoming events, payments, etc. If
you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail them
at
www.steppinoutthestudio@yahoo.com.
“9 to 5” Update –
Opens this week in L.A. Jennifer is so excited and says the show is
absolutely amazing. The cast has gotten to know Dolly quite well, and in the
studio I have a picture of Jennifer and Dolly.
“Singin’ in
The Rain” at LSHS…
I am once again serving as Choreographer for Lee’s Summit
High School’s musical “Singin in the Rain.” This will mark my 25th
musical that I have either performed in, directed, or choreographed. I
am proud that we have many students from the studio in this show,
which truly makes a difference on stage. Watch for more info on this.
Private
Vocal…
I have such exciting news regarding our Vocal Program! I
have recently hired two new instructors, both of whom bring a wealth of
experience, knowledge, and training to our studio. Laura Finch and Sarah
Brown are both accepting new students on a very limited basis. Laura is
currently a music educator with the Blue Valley School District, and Sarah
is a vocal coach in the private sector (her son was Winthrop in The Music
Man at Starlight Theatre). Both are very excited about working with the
talented students at Steppin’ Out. Donna Maddox will
continue teaching also, and has a few openings, as well. If you are
interested in signing up, please see the front desk. The time slots are
filling quickly, so act now! |
